Sparkle Day. Our Proposal Story.

I have thought about blogging this a few times…. and just never sat down to do it. Saturday marked 6 years since Josh proposed to me. It was Father’s Day weekend, and I was incredibly surprised. Like… crazy surprised. ๐Ÿ™‚

Josh had gone to Superbowl XL February with his best friend Matt… and so I figured it would be a long time until we were engaged. Boy was I wrong.

They did get one for the thumb! Pretty awesome adventure they had!

So, here’s the story of “Sparkle Day.”

Josh and I headed to Pittsburgh for Father’s Day weekend….. Nothing crazy planned. Just spending the weekend with our families. We went to Pittsburgh first to visit with his family… and would head to Erie on Sat/Sun to visit with mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sat am we played golf at Treesdale. Always a good time!

Lovely pic below…

And just in case you were wondering…. yes, I beat him. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s pretty much a given.

Ha Ha… Sorry Josh!

So after golf, we were heading downtown to meet Josh’s best friend and fiance for lunch at Primanti Brothers. At least, that is what I was told. Josh encouraged me not to clean up too much… didn’t matter if I was grubby from golf…

So, we headed downtown…. took forever to park (he was waiting on his best friend to get down there)… He was on the phone with his best friend Matt, A LOT, about meeting up… Matt and his fiance were “running late.”

So, we decided to go walk around The Point. There was an Art Show just around the corner, but Josh insisted that we didn’t stop. He said we could come back to it later (we never did).

I remember walking over to the point, holding his hand thinking… gosh, I really love this guy.

We got to the point, took a few pics…. chatted….

The next thing I remember Josh had gotten up to grab a bag that was sitting on the ground in front of us. He proceeded to open it, and there was champagne and 2 glasses inside. He opened the champagne and poured it into the glasses… the whole time I was kind of freaking out… ok, really freaking out. I kept telling him to put it back b/c it wasn’t ours… and we couldn’t drink someone else’s champagne. etc. I 100% had no clue what had just happened and was so focused on the fact that I thought we were stealing someone’s champagne, that I don’t even remember what he was talking about.

Then he asked me to stand up… and I think that is where it dawned on me what might be happening because he got on his knee… Held out a ring, and asked me to marry him. ๐Ÿ™‚ He froze in that position… just holding the ring out towards me. All of the people around us were watching and clapped. It was pretty surreal. (By all of the people, I mean like 6… ha ha… it was a very small crowd)

So… it turns out his best friend Matt had walked by… and dropped the bag out in front of us while we (read: I) were engrossed in conversation.

In the pic below you can see the bag on the right that I thought he had stolen… ๐Ÿ™‚

Then he lit a sparkler… which is kind of an inside thing. In talking about getting married, we coined the phrase Sparkle Day, for the day that we would one day get engaged. ย I didn’t care what kind of ring I got… what size, shape, etc it was.. I just wanted something sparkly… Hence the name Sparkle Day. ย Hence the sparkler that he had lit. It was a cute gesture…. even though sparklers don’t really show up in broad daylight. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sparkle Day was here!

So, as if this wasn’t awesome enough (because it was)…. We ended up walking over to the Hyatt (now the Wyndham Grand). He told me he had another surprise for me….

So we headed over, and he got a key to a room…. and he sent me up to the room alone. He told me just to trust him, go up to the room, and then meet him in the lobby in a little bit.

I went up to the room, and this was waiting for me.

He had a dress… a clutch purse, and a pair of shoes all ready to go for me. Funny thing is… I had actually picked out the dress myself, but I had thought I was picking out a dress for his sister! ๐Ÿ™‚

There were flowers… and a bag of makeup (from his sister Allison). She and her friend had set up the room and put everything out for me. It was really cute though, b/c I hadn’t actually met her yet, and when I got to the room, I heard giggling in the bathroom. She and her friend were hiding in the shower b/c they were supposed to have left before I came up.

She hugged me quickly and ran out of the room…

So this is why Josh told me not to worry about cleaning up after golf…. He knew I would have a chance to do so later. ๐Ÿ™‚

I met Josh in the lobby…. we had a drink… and then he told me there was more!

So, we got in the car and we drove up to Mt. Washington. He said we were going to go to a nice dinner to celebrate. ๐Ÿ™‚

And, we walked in and it was an engagement party with my parents, his family, and some of our closest friends. So amazing!!! I cried my eyes out to say the least. We went to Bella Vista… which we think is now closed. Not sure what the new restaurant there is now…. ย but it was so amazing to spend such an incredible day celebrating with the people I love the most. Below are some of the pics I was able to dig up. We have more… but these are the ones I could get my fingers on. Most of them courtesy of Steph!

Me and my dad….

My future family….

So then fast forward 2 months… for my birthday in August. Josh then revealed that Christina, his best friend’s fiance had taken pics!
So, here it goes!
